My friends and I - all huge fans of track and field - are disappointed that basically no field events are being shown. Maybe you should just call it "track."

This was a 4-man, 10 minute high jump exhibition inside a discus cage between qualifying and finals of a big discus meet. Jumpers had to jump in rotation and all jumps were to be completed in a 10 minute limit.

Where was this famous picture taken?

Actually, this picture was taken in the fall of 1983 at Ambassador College in Pasadena, Calif. It was my first jump practice of the season leading up to the Olympic Trials and a writer and photographer from the Orange County Register were following me for monthly installments of my preparations to make the team. When I saw the contact sheets of the photo I liked this one in particular for an autograph photo for my shoe sponsor, Asics America Corp., to duplicate for fans. It's an easy clearance at 6' 11" that shows good technique, the shoes, and a less strained expression on my face and I still use it to this day.

Coach Stones
